Bob Shields

Bob Shields has been a co-host of “The Early Game” since 107.5 The Game signed on the air in 2007 and he has been covering South Carolina sports since 1981 when he was hired by Columbia’s WLTX-TV upon his graduation from the University of South Carolina School of Journalism. During his 30-year career with WLTX, Bob received numerous awards and honors including two Emmy Awards. Three times he was named Sportscaster of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and he was recognized as the South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

When he retired from WLTX-TV, Bob was presented with the Order of the Silver Crescent by the SC Governor’s Office and May 27, 2010 was declared “Bob Shields Day” in the city of Columbia by the Mayor’s Office. He was given a key to the city and was also presented with a key to Capital City Stadium by the Columbia Blowfish. USC also honored Bob’s retirement by allowing him to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in game one of the SEC baseball series between the Gamecocks and Florida. Bob was also given personalized football jerseys from USC, Clemson and South Carolina State.

While Bob has successfully transitioned into a new career as a Funeral Director with Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, his passion for sports has never waned and he especially enjoys being a part of “The Early Game”.  Bob continues to work in television as a part-time member of the South Carolina High School League Network broadcast team and he is the public address announcer for Spring Valley High School football games.

Bob married his wife, Renee’, in 1989. They have two children and a dog.
